Prayer for June 17-23, 2012
Sermon Text: Mark 4:26-34
That we might be
faithful and glad servants
Sovereign God, we rejoice in You and in your merciful
reign. We rejoice that You allow us to
participate in bringing your reign to fullness by faithful acts of witness and
service. But we acknowledge that the
extension of your reign goes on, unseen, and uncontrolled by us. You invite us to participate in the harvest
You have prepared, but all of the growth is given by your nurture and care.
God, we rejoice
that You are relentless, tenacious, in the extension of your reign, yet gentle,
subtle, in its sure increase. In spite
of ongoing opposition by defeated powers, your reign spreads your nurture and
shelter among us, and in an ever widening circle.
God of wisdom, we
rejoice in Jesus’ thoughtful instruction to whoever would hear. Give us ears to hear Jesus’ word for us
today. Give us understanding that we
might be faithful and glad servants of your reign. Give us energy to participate in the harvest
You have prepared. Amen.
