Prayer for August 29-September 4, 2010

Preaching text: Luke 14:1, 7-14

That we may practice humility and generosity

Patient Teacher, help us learn humility that abandons all competition for recognition and honor. Enable us to defer to others without bitterness and to accept whatever recognition and honor we may receive as your generous gifts. Help us set aside our suspicion of one another in order to work as agents of your healing.

Stop us when we offer hospitality and act with generosity only when we are likely to receive something in return. Help us to see those who need our friendship and need us to share our resources. Then enable us to be as profuse in our welcome and gift giving as You have been with us.

May others see You and know you because they have seen your welcoming face through us. Amen.

  1. We had a very short homily because of the heat. It could have been better and shorter if he had read your blog out loud!
