Prayer for September 2-8, 2012

Sermon Text: James 1:17-27

That we may be faithful in listening and speaking

Generous God, You have lavished many gifts upon us.  You have provided all that we need to live in faithful communion with You.

We rejoice in You!  We praise You for your goodness to us!  We delight in your eternal faithfulness!  We find joy and peace in the life You have given us through your word of truth!

Enable us to listen before we speak.  Help us control our anger so we may pursue your righteousness.  Guide us as we remove everything from our lives that hinders our communion with You and that limits the growth of your word in our lives.

Help us obey your word each day.  Help us to remember that we are yours and to live fully into our identity.  Enable us to comprehend your desire for us so that we may live into the freedom and blessing You create for us.

Help us tame our speech.  Keep us from deceiving ourselves about our faith in You.  Energize us to care for those who are most vulnerable among us, and to walk away from the things of the world that pollute and destroy.

God, we trust You wholly, for You have given yourself wholly to us.  Amen.
