Prayer for February 17-23, 2013
Sermon Text: Luke 4:1-3
That we may embody
your word in our character and action
Christ, our Leader, we rejoice that You have shared our temptation. We rejoice that You know this challenging and
often painful part of our experience, but that You were not overcome by it.
We rejoice that
You drew strength from the Holy Spirit of God in your time of temptation. Enable us to follow your lead by trusting the
Spirit for guidance to face each of our challenges.
We rejoice that
You knew and embodied scripture so thoroughly that You were able to rebuff the
tempter’s seductions even when the tempter used and distorted scripture to
tempt You. Enable us to learn and recall
scripture more thoroughly, as your word, and let us
embody it more fully in our
character and action.
We want to walk
with You in faithfulness and know that You provide all the resources needed to
face temptation without succumbing to sin.
When we do sin,
forgive us, raise us up, and set us back on the path by your side. We will walk through the wilderness with You
if it brings You praise. Amen.
