Prayer for August 2-8, 2015
Sermon Text: John
6:24-35
That we may receive all your gifts in order to give
all for You
Christ Jesus, many days we are more
interested in having our physical needs met than we are in discerning the signs
of God’s presence among us and responding to those signs by thoughtful belief
and diligent discipleship.
We believe that You are God’s Anointed and
Chosen One, but our faith is often flimsy—limited to intellectual assent to a
statement about You, or to good emotions about God’s care for us during our
good days. We seldom take significant
risks in order to demonstrate our trust in you through the twists and turmoil
of daily life. We hesitate to expend all
that we are and all that we have in order to follow You.
Enable us to see You more clearly. Enable us to trust You wholly. Enable us to follow, without hesitation, as
participants in the reign of God that You have made so real among us. Enable us to receive all that You have for us
in order that we may give all for You.
Amen.
