Prayer for January 31-February 6, 2016
Sermon Text: Luke 4:21-30
That we may walk
and work beside You
Christ! How quickly our hearts turn against You! How quickly we suppose, with just a little
bit of familiarity, that we know all about You.
How quickly we become spiteful enemies when we decide that You are
presumptuous, or when You do not speak and act as we suppose You must. How quickly You expose the shallow nature of
our devotion and our propensity to violence.
In spite of our
efforts, and the efforts of others, You will not be controlled or deterred from
the fulfillment of your mission. We
cannot contain You. We cannot overpower
You.
Forgive us for our
fickleness. Forgive us for our violent
hearts and actions. Forgive us for
assuming too much too often.
Enable us to hear
You, welcome your word, and walk and work beside You as You complete your
mission. Amen.
