PRAISE AND GLORY: PRAYERS OF PRAISE ENGAGING THE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST
DAY 8 - THURSDAY
God seeks in holy love to deliver all people from aimlessness
and sin.
So often, Faithful Shepherd,
we are like sheep who have
wandered far from your attentive care
and from the companionship of
the fold.
Chasing whatever sets our
senses tingling, or puts a gleam in our eye,
or makes us feel important, we
plunge into trouble
until we are so fully sated
and lethargic
that we cannot think clearly
or act decisively,
and fall back upon various
stimulants
to avoid facing the
meaninglessness of our favored pursuits.
In the midst of our dreary
cycles of lost focus and waning energy,
in the midst of our
carelessness and callous rebelliousness,
You come to us: passionate
amid our apathy,
energetic amid our lethargy, decisive
amid our aimlessness,
holy amid our sinfulness, to
offer forgiveness,
to initiate transformation
and renewal in your likeness,
to generate vision for
meaningful life
and compassionate ministry in
your very presence.
O God, we rejoice in your
salvation!
You have done more than we
could ask or think. Amen.
