Sermon Text: Luke 13:1-9
That we may relinquish everything that provides no energy for a life of freedom and joy
Merciful One, You generously offer us
sustenance that we cannot procure for ourselves. You promise satisfaction that
we are unable to generate by our purchases and habits and much vain labor.
You invite us to listen. You invite us to
obey. You invite us into your presence. You promise that there, in your
presence, we will find life that is satisfying. You promise to make enduring
covenant with us, to be partner and provider throughout the days of our lives
as your people.
Open our ears to hear your invitation. Open
our hearts to welcome your presence. Open our hands to receive and share your
gifts.
Help us to relinquish the many things we
cling to that provide no satisfaction or energy for a life of freedom and joy.
We seek You now! We welcome your nearness.
We forsake the sinful and destructive thoughts and actions that have diminished
us and kept us from being wholly yours.
We do not know the mysterious depths of
your ways and thoughts, but we give ourselves to You in gladness. Amen.
