Prayer for March 17-23, 2019
Sermon Text: Luke 13:31-35

That we may welcome your challenging truthfulness

Jesus, we rejoice in the tenacity with which You pursued your mission. You were not diverted from your task when resisted and threatened by either political or religious powers. When even those who had the most to gain from your action resisted the newness that You would bring, You continued to speak the truth directly. You continued to act in the face of threat.  You continued to give all that You were as agent of God’s new governance. You showed unflinching courage, and strength of character, no matter how You were opposed.

Though courageous enough not to back down when threats arose against You and your mission, You were tender toward many. You longed to draw Your people near, to protect and nurture them, and give them a taste of the fullest life possible. But even then You faced resistance. Your love and generosity were largely unwanted.

Many rejected You even though they diminished their own lives by doing so.  Do not let us make the same mistake. Open our hearts and our arms to welcome and embrace You. Open our ears to hear and obey. Guide our steps so that we may follow You wherever You lead. Amen.
