PRAISE AND GLORY: PRAYERS OF PRAISE ENGAGING THE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST
STATEMENT OF FAITH
DAY 12 - TUESDAY
In Jesus Christ, the man of Nazareth , our crucified and risen Lord, God
has come to us.
O Clandestine One! God-in-flesh!
God with us!
How You have come to us continues
to surprise us.
Choosing full immersion –
complete engagement with all
that we are –
from womb to birth, with
infant cries and suckling sounds
and circumcised flesh, the
slow crawl, first step,
initial words of Living Word,
growing in wisdom, stature,
favor, learning Torah,
learning to work rough wood,
learning the call that will
pre-empt every urge.
In the wilderness, “Prepare!”
Baptized among many, a dove,
a voice, a claim.
In the wilderness, an
adversary, tempting, needling,
rebuffed by words intoned
from a well-tuned heart.
Telling Torah, telling
parables, inviting a circle of friends,
touching strangers to health,
breaking the bonds
of oppressive spirits, brutal
powers.
Living in conflict, reformer, renegade,
untangling word snares, moving
inexorably toward Zion ,
toward suffering, rejection, towards
a cross –
crux of the matter in the end
– and glory unspeakable. Amen.
