Prayer for February 17-23, 2019
Sermon Text: Luke 6:27-38

That we may expand the scope of our love

God of expansive love, enable us to live as your children by expanding the scope of our love. Enable us to be daring by loving our enemies and others whom we have not typically perceived as likely or desirable recipients of our love.

Help us not to be judgmental or condemn those who respond in different ways than we do or who make our lives difficult. Teach us to discern when resistance is not a faithful response to difficult demands. Help us not to retaliate or seek vengeance when others have wronged or taken advantage of us. Help us not to calculate a way to gain advantage, but to be extravagantly generous and merciful to those who have shown neither generosity nor mercy to us. Enable us to act toward every person in the way we want others to act toward us.

God, what we ask is not easy for us. We trust in the guidance and energy of your Spirit to make daring love possible for us. Amen.
