THIRD
THURSDAY
Mark 4:21-34
Christ
Jesus, we are moved by your instruction. Sometimes we are moved to delight and
glad obedience. Sometimes we are moved to anger and resistance. In your
presence, and by your word, the true condition of our heart and mind is
clarified, often to our chagrin.
Enable us
to receive your instruction, even when meaning must be teased from your oblique
parables and from the odd experiences through which we live. Enable us to
understand more and more. Help us to learn in humility and through obedience.
Help us to
recognize and accept that God’s reign among us grows in mystery that is beyond
our explanation or our control. Help us not to grasp for certainty, but to
cling to you and trust your leadership that leads us to justice and
reconciliation.
We believe
that there will be a great harvest of the reign of God among us. We believe
that people of incredible variety will commit themselves to God’s reign and
find shelter in God’s presence. Enable us to act as agents who lead others into
that shelter. Amen.
