SIXTH
FRIDAY
Mark 10:32-45
Jesus, even
though we live our lives in the midst of a life and death drama of cosmic
significance, we are often so focused on ourselves that we can only think about
our own well-being, our own status, our own benefit.
We miss the
larger vision because of our narrow focus on ourselves. We fail to see what You
are doing. We fail to see the great cost that You take upon yourself in order to make the reign of God truly
and meaningfully present among us. And we fail to see the magnificent
possibilities for newness that You are creating which will gradually unfold in
beauty in and around us.
Forgive us
for our narcissism. Forgive us for our competitiveness. Forgive us for
resisting your command and your example.
Transform
us! Enable us to see the possibilities for service that You place before us.
Energize us for service by the gift of your Spirit! Enable us to share the cup
and baptism that You endured—the way of suffering and death—by your constant
presence with us. Amen.
