Mark 9:42-50
Christ
Jesus, when we are tempted to treat sin casually, You remind us how deeply
destructive it is. In poetic speech, You exhort us to take drastic measures to
eliminate sin from our lives. You warn us against creating hazards that would
cause the most vulnerable among us to stumble, lose their way, and abandon their
faith in You.
Forgive us
when we are casual, even slipshod, in our attentiveness to your instruction and
commands. Forgive us when we are careless of the impact that our faithless acts
may have upon others.
Guide us
into obedience that is not characterized by grim scrupulosity, but by glad
fidelity. May our faithfulness strengthen and uphold sisters and brothers who
are struggling to live faithfully. We rejoice that your Spirit helps each of us
each day. Amen.
