Lenten Prayers
Walking With Jesus

Day 12: Tuesday
Mark 2:18-20 (see also Isaiah 58)

Jesus our Teacher and Leader, we celebrate your presence among us.  We rejoice that we are able to walk with You each day.  We rejoice that You lead us into lives that are full of surprise and delight, lives that we could not have predicted or imagined apart from your presence and guidance.  We feast, in delight, with those whom You have gathered to yourself as servants of God’s reign.

Yet, we seek discernment for those times when we must fast, when we must wait upon You by setting aside our most urgent needs so that your will may be done among us in fresh ways.  Enable us to put the demands of your reign before our own comforts.  Enable us to fast in ways that hasten the work of justice among us.

As we fast in glad service, may we offer the oppressed release from their varied chains and cells; may we provide the hungry with nourishing food; may we welcome the homeless into loving homes; may we clothe the naked with sturdy clothing; and may we help those who are afflicted to find satisfaction in You.  We follow your lead in hope for the full revealing of your healing reign among us.  Amen.
