LENTEN PRAYERS

WALKING WITH JESUS

Day 18: Tuesday

Mark 3:31-34

Christ Jesus, we tend to perceive our families as that to which we are most fully and deeply committed.  We commonly allow nothing to get in the way of our dedication to our families.  But You call us to place dedication to God’s reign among us above every other form of allegiance, whether familial, corporate, religious, racial, ethnic or national. 

You command us to love our neighbors and our enemies.  But You demand absolute loyalty only to God, with love of our neighbors and enemies flowing forth as a glad expression of our total devotion to God.  

We cannot achieve such devotion on our own.  We count on your companionship and guidance in order to walk in this direction.  Let us walk closely beside You, as your sisters and brothers, learning wisdom and obedience to the will of God as we walk.  We will follow as long and far as You lead us.  Amen.
