Prayer for March 8-14, 2015
Psalm 19
God, we rejoice that you have revealed
yourself to us in both your creation and in your instruction to us.
We delight in the beauty of the heavens:
the cycles and colors of sunrise and sunset; the glow of planets and the
twinkling of stars; the surprise of comets, meteorites and auroras. How often we have gazed and caught our breath
and acknowledged that these beauties reflect your glory.
God, we rejoice too, that You have
revealed yourself to us through your instruction, your law. Through it we find enlightenment, refreshment
and enrichment. Through it You give us
wisdom and cause us to rejoice. Through
it we discover that You are Sovereign over all creation and in the daily
details of our lives.
Protect us from pride and hidden sins
whose slow creep might control our lives. We rejoice that You have given us guidance
and commanded us to walk with You in faithfulness. We treasure your word! Amen.
NOTE: In this prayer I see Torah, God's instruction, as a valuable resource for us, though not the source of our salvation. What do you think?
Unfortunately for those of us in Chicago, the glory of God revealed in the heavens is largely hidden due to light pollution. My brother and I often slept outside while growing up and enjoyed stars and meteors.
